Group 2 (Episode to Air Monday, April 8)
Alyssa Raghunadan & Julia Michaels – Issues by Julia Michaels… fangirling on steroids…she rocked out last performance and slow down…the lyrics mean most to her. This is the song that sparked Julia into becoming an artist. Alyssa will be in the top 14 on this performance. Lionel, Luke, and Perry all loved this duet.
Eddie Island & Lukas Graham – 7 Years by Lukas Graham…Oscar the dog a stuffed animal, Eddie was so pumped…do the serious side with the song. No goofy guy tonight…nice shift in sentiment from Eddie. Life is too short and listens to the words feel it. Luke he loved was a perfect fit, great job and hitting the notes. Lionel, you are having the time of your life. You can actually sing..no joke my friend. Perry wants to bottle him up…serious part of the music.
Wade Cota & LovelytheBand (with multiple instruments) – Broken by Lovely the Band… He got the mom hug last time on stage to be there with him. In rehearsal, he admitted that the song reflects his lowest point in life at the time. Channel that into his voice and performance. Wade has a distinctive voice that shines in this performance. Lionel has a powerful voice and you are feeling comfortable with you. Perry… a real bona fide rock star… dancing, tapped into some energy. Luke called him showcasing his voice and pulled us in more.
Ryan Hammond and Cynthia Erivo – Hold on I’m Comin’ by Sam and Dave. He talked about his weight loss during in 2017 refinding his voice. She called his voice gorgeous. Ryan does not have the power for this classic. Nope going home. Luke wanted more swagger on stage…Perry called he has a good voice. Lionel told him to relax and he has faith in him.
Evelyn Cormier & Chris Isaak (with guitar) – Wicked Game by Chris Isaak. This should be the coolest pairing. Her voice captured Perry’s attention. You wanting love so bad that you do not care where it ends. Chris has never sung this song as a duet. A full circle of her audition song…she had her dream duet. Luke a front row seat to a special moment, showcasing those great tones. Lionel, you are a stylist, an identifiable voice and applauded her. Perry was able to speak sensibly and believed it was “it factor” you can not learn. WTG Katy! Double impressed with Evelyn and Chris called her the one who has it to be the next American Idol.
Logan Johnson & Julia Michaels – What a Time by Julia Michaels & Niall Horan… He remembers the comments he received last performance. Logan was influenced by Julia’s appearance and was talking about being nervous in doing the duet. He was strong to hold attention for a moment or two. Sorry, he does not make it. Lionel highlighted his ability to listen, a great job, well done. Perry got lost in the moment a good sign. Luke take every opportunity, good vibe with the whole song.
Raquel Trinidad & LovelytheBand (with multiple instruments) – Tiny Dancer by Elton John… She has never heard the song but knows it was a classic…lots of runs thrown in by Raquel in rehearsal. He encouraged her as well as told her about the meaning of the song. Education is important kids. Adults educate them! Off soapbox. Nope, I did not buy it. She needs more time to grow as a performer. Perry never heard her sing that well. Lionel asked about duets, look at the audience, end of the lesson. End of show. Luke called her voice unique and good job was his verdict. Really!
Alejandro Aranda & Ben Harper (both with guitar) – There Will be a Light by Ben Harper… Alejandro talks about his journey with Ben. Both grew up one town apart visiting his family’s music store. A lot of excitement at the moment. May the sky always be the limit for the dreamers. Good quote. He is 24 Alejandro with such a distinctive tone… Luke loves the gentle approach and space for the music. Lionel spoke about how he shut the crowd down to actually listen! So true. You have a career. Perry, you embody authenticity!
Dimitrius Graham & Lukas Graham – Love Someone by Lukas Graham... some fanboying going on sharing second names…start a new boyband… Lukas asked him to sing from the soul. Any love you want to sing about…his mother was mentioned. Lukas makes some good points both in music and personal connection. Make a note executives. Lionel called them both in control. Perry best sounding duet she had heard today! Luke one of the best singers he has heard. She lept out and called him a male Beyonce! OK hmm. Lukas hopes he makes it all the way.
Jeremiah Harmon & Cynthia Erivo – Time after Time by Cyndi Lauper…warning this is one of my all-time favorites…so don’t mess it up. Jeremiah spoke about his sexuality serves to be a huge inspiration…you have the right to be the person you are. More reason to believe in himself. A good connection between these two. Enjoy the video. Perry, you have a crazy range. Luke wanted to sing out Bravo! Sitting on the edge of his seat. Lionel called it flawless, in the end, the point of direction, total attention for the moment. Cynthia was a great mentor and believes he can go anywhere he wants too.
